GTD - Out of Hours
How to contact GTD
If you need immediate and necessary medical advice or attention and cannot wait until a local GP practice is open, you can:
- Ring your own GP practice telephone number and you will then be re-directed to GTD
- Contact GTD directly on 0161 336 3252
What happens next?
Your call will be answered by a specially trained call handler: they will ask you some questions, for example your name, address, name of your GP, contact telephone number and the reason for your call.
It is useful to have a pen and paper handy to make notes of any information you may be given. All information is regarded as confidential and all calls are recorded.
There will be occasions when all lines to the service are busy. You will hear a message advising you to 'please stay on the line'. Please don't hang up as your call will be answered.
By asking a number of specific questions, your call will be prioritised so that we can decide how best to manage your needs.
If your condition is assessed as an emergency, you may be asked to contact your nearest Accident & Emergency (A&E) Department immediately. If your call is urgent a member of the medical team will ring you back within 20 minutes, or if your call is less urgent within 60 minutes.
In the meantime if your condition worsens please call back. When the nurse or doctor rings you back they will ask for more details about your urgent healthcare problem and may:
- give youhome care advice
- Arrange an appointment at one of our treatment centres
- Arrange a home visit if you need to be seen and are not well enough to travel to a treatment centre
- Advise you to attend an Accident and Emergency (A&E) Department
- In an emergency, send out an ambulance.
