The health centre offers primary care services to registered patients living within the catchment area (see below) as well as non-registered patients visiting, living in, or working in the area. Services are available between 8am and 8pm seven days a week including all Bank Holidays.

Please note, a telephone line is available at the centre, which gives patients direct access to Citizens Advice. The free service enables patients to discuss any concerns or issues while visiting the centre. Further information is available here.

Home visits

If you are registered at the practice and are unable to attend the health centre and need a home visit contact reception on 0161 342 7050. Home visits are only available for patients who are housebound because of illness or disability. If possible, please try to telephone before 10am. A doctor or nurse may phone you back as it may be that your problem can be dealt with by telephone advice, or that it would be more appropriate to send a nurse, or indeed arrange going to hospital. Please note we are always able to examine patients better and can do more tests in the centre. Please try to make it to the centre if you can.

What if the centre is closed?

If you require urgent but not life-threatening medical assistance that cannot wait until your GP practice re-opens, please call 111. Following a telephone assessment by NHS111 you will be provided with information about the appropriate service for your health problem. If you are unsure which health care service you need to visit, NHS 111 will signpost you to the most appropriate care for your condition - GP, local pharmacy, walk-in-centre, emergency department or an emergency ambulance response.

If you have a life-threatening medical emergency, please dial 999.

Calls to the NHS 111 service are free from both landlines and mobiles (pay as you go phones need to have at least 1p of credit, although no charge is made).

Catchment area and registrations

Our centre area includes all of Ashton-Under-Lyne so if you live in this area you can register with us. Patients from all areas can use our unregistered patient services.

In order to register with the centre you should bring your NHS medical card and also evidence of your place of residence, such as a work permit visa, utility bill or photo ID. If you don't have a medical card a receptionist will ask you to fill in a form and will offer you a registration medical appointment.

Making an appointment

If you would like to see the doctor or nurse please phone 0161 342 7050 or come into the centre to make an appointment.

If you are unable to keep your appointment it is very important that you let us know so that we can offer the appointment to someone else. Our centre's policy is to inform any patient who arrives more than 15 minutes late for an appointment that unfortunately they may not be seen and will have to re-book their appointment.

How to find us

General

The aim of the Medical Practice is to provide excellent patient services and meet and exceed national quality standards.

Patients with particular needs

The premises are accessible to disabled patients. All consulting rooms are on ground floor level and are accessible by a wheelchair. Hearing loops are in place in the reception area for those patients who are hard of hearing. We can arrange interpretation in person or by phone for patients who do not speak English. Please let us know if you need this service when booking an appointment.

Phone Advice

You do not always need to come in for an appointment. Many problems can be dealt with over the phone and we will always phone you back on the same day we can:

  • Provide advice about treating minor illnesses
  • Deal with queries about hospital appointments
  • Deal with queries about medical forms and sick notes
  • Answer queries about test results
  • Provide advice on medication

Repeat prescriptions

Every time we issue a repeat prescription, an up to date list of your medications is also printed on the right hand side of your prescription to enable you to remember which tablets you take. This is also useful when you re-order your medication by either of the following:

  • Attending the centre and requesting a prescription face to face or putting in our repeat prescription box in reception.
  • Requesting a repeat prescription through your local pharmacies order and collect service.
  • Sending your prescription request through the post or via fax.

To avoid errors, we do not accept telephone requests for repeat prescriptions.

Once your request has been received, it will take a further 48 working hours to process your prescription.

Test results

The practice has a strict policy regarding confidentiality and data protection. We will only release test results to the person to who they relate unless that person has let us know they have given prior permission for someone else to pick up the results or they are not capable of understanding the results.

If investigations are arranged by either the doctor or a nurse, please ensure that you understand how to check the results. An enquiry to reception will tell you if the result is available and whether or not you need to see the doctor again.

Please telephone for your results between 2pm and 3pm. This allows time for the results to be processed and checked by the doctor. It helps enormously, if when requesting results you can be as specific as possible about what the test was for and when it was done.
