Colleagues have participated in a careers day, helping students learn about healthcare professions.

Sarah Connolly, infection preventionist practitioner, Andrea Roberts, joint head of nursing and allied health professionals, Karen Wedlock, educational lead, and Bern Tang, deputy lead governance pharmacist, attended the event at The King David High School and met with students from years 7 to 13.

They hosted a stand and spoke with students about the wide range of clinical and non-clinical roles in the NHS, covering career pathways, qualifications and key workplace skills.

Andrea said it was rewarding to speak with so many students and help them consider the opportunities available in healthcare.

“Many were surprised by the variety of roles beyond frontline clinical positions and it was great to highlight different career paths in the NHS,” she said.

Karen said these events benefit both students and healthcare professionals.

“They give young people valuable information about careers in healthcare while allowing us to share our experience and encourage the next generation of professionals,” she said.

The visit was arranged by Inspiring Futures who support children and young people to achieve their potential on their journey towards employment. Inspiring Futures reached out to Jane Doyle, infection preventionist lead and registered volunteer, who helped co-ordinate gtd healthcare’s participation.

At gtd healthcare, supporting education and development is a priority. Connecting with local schools helps provide students with a clearer understanding of healthcare careers and the skills needed to succeed.
