Three innovative NHS walk-in services in Greater Manchester are proving a success due to the volume of patients being treated.

More than 220,000 patients have been cared for at gtd healthcare’s Lindley Medical Practice in Oldham, Ashton Primary Care Centre in Ashton-Under Lyne and City Health Centre in Manchester City Centre, since their inceptions in 2009.

The walk-in services, which are operated by gtd healthcare, are GP and nurse-led and provide treatment for minor ailments such as infections and rashes, vomiting and diarrhoea and minor burns and strains.

Paula Vanderpeer, head of primary care at gtd healthcare, said this is a great achievement and a testament to the effective provision of walk-in services gtd provides.

"On average, the walk-in services, which operate seven days a week, 365 days a year, between 8am and 8pm, run alongside GP practices for registered patients and each treat more than 35,000 patients per year,” she said.

"The beauty of attending a walk-in service is patients do not need an appointment and the service compliments the traditional GP and A&E services.

"Treating a large number of patients year-on-year really demonstrates that gtd clinicians and administrative staff are committed to delivering a service that is not only meeting the needs of the local population but is of a high standard.”

Walk-in services are accessible for patients who are not registered with a GP, are unable to get a GP appointment or need to see a health professional when their GP practice is closed and they need immediate and necessary treatment.
