Collaboration with a local festival has increased awareness of, and improved access to, the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccination.
Specialist Services were recently invited to host a stall at the Kushi Festival, inviting
attendees to receive the vaccine and learn about the MMR vaccine and the infections it protects against.
Kathryn Smith, clinical services manager, said the initiative forms part of wider efforts to make vaccinations more accessible.
“By bringing the vaccines directly into community settings, we are able to reach people who might not otherwise attend a routine appointment,” she said.
“The whole event was very exciting to be a part of. We vaccinated 10 people on the day and handed out gift bags which contained donated goodies and information to promote staying healthy.”
The Kushi Festival, organised by Oldham Coliseum Theatre and The Women’s CHAI Project and supported by Oldham Council, is a one-day festival of happiness held each year to celebrate family, South Asian culture and community spirit.
