Competitiveness came to the fore as teams of colleagues went head-to head to tackle the comical and physical challenges of the It’s a Knockout event.

David Beckett, chief executive, said it was fantastic to see staff from across the organisation participate and complete tasks that were out of the ordinary.

“We were faced with hail, wind and rain - and that’s before we got started!” he said.

“A particular memorable moment for me was donning a giant costume while walking across a sliding floor and then losing my trainers along the way – needless to say, I missed out on the winning spot as a result!

“The morning was filled with healthy competition, lots of laughter and friendly battles with colleagues, which pushed us outside our comfort zones.

“It was just the tonic for many after a tough end to the week."

Staff from primary care, urgent care and head office stepped up to the challenges, with Janice, receptionist at Charlestown Medical Practice, saying she’ll never look at a penguin the same again!

“I had to wear a penguin costume while my teammates passed foam-shaped rugby balls to each other using their knees, and I had to store them. It was a stuffy experience — but great fun!

“But in all seriousness, it was a brilliant way to meet colleagues, break down barriers, get stuck-in and have a laugh.”
