Dr Usman Choudry has been appointed as gtd healthcare’s clinical lead in urgent care, which will draw on his expert knowledge and enhance patient care in this field.

Dr Choudry said it is a privilege to take on this new role and is looking forward to embarking upon the new challenge.

"This is an exciting opportunity and I am keen to provide clinical input into the dynamic urgent care agenda across the organisation,” he said.

"I’ve worked for gtd healthcare as an out-of-hours GP for nearly seven years and I divide my time between work in the urgent and out-of-hours care setting to day-to-day general practice and clinical audit. Therefore, I do believe that now is the right time to take on a new challenge and really focus on improving the quality of the urgent care service across Greater Manchester Southport, Formby and South Sefton.

Dr Choudry will be working closely with NHS Clinical Commissioning Groups, local authority partners and other health specialists to ensure urgent care is continuously enhanced and patients receive the best possible service.

An experienced GP, Dr Choudry is also involved in projects outside of work, which provide health education to grass-roots communities to help tackle health inequalities.

Sally Deaville, head of service delivery at gtd healthcare, said she is confident that Dr Choudry’s experience and expertise will contribute towards constructively challenging and suggesting new and innovative ways of working in the urgent care setting.

"We look forward to working with Dr Choudry in his new role and supporting him shape the urgent care agenda,” she said.

gtd healthcare recognises and values senior clinical expertise in delivery, evaluation and further development of urgent care.

In January 2013, Dr Choudry was involved in setting-up and delivering the Alternative to Transfer scheme in partnership with North West Ambulance Service, for patients who have called an ambulance, but would benefit from seeing a GP working in the community.
