An expert in thrombosis care has influenced this year’s Venous Thromboembolism Awards.
Sharon Collins, gtd healthcare's venous thromboembolism lead, was invited by Thrombosis UK to help assess entries for the awards, which celebrate excellence in thrombosis care. Submissions highlight innovative projects, improved patient outcomes and advancements in venous thromboembolism treatment. Sharon was selected for the role following her achievement as the 2023 Unsung Hero award winner.
Judging took place on 26 February, with Sharon joining a panel of consultants, specialists and patient representatives to review submissions across five key categories, including:
- Thrombosis UK award for work in venous thromboembolism prevention.
- Enhancing patient experience.
- Thrombosis UK award for an outstanding patient resource, and sharing information about venous thromboembolism prevention for patients and carers.
- Thrombosis UK award for an excellent quality improvement programme that advanced practice in thrombosis prevention or management.
- Deep vein thrombosis pathway award for leading to improved and timely diagnosis of thrombosis.
Sharon said she was truly honoured to be part of the judging panel.
“It was a privilege to recognise the dedication and progress of those working to improve thrombosis care,” she said.
“I’ve gained valuable insights from the judging process and look forward to bringing best practices back to enhance our services.”
As a panel member, Sharon has also been invited to attend the award ceremony at the Houses of Parliament on 13 April.
